The Horry County Museum and The AVX Foundation present a lecture by Colonel Charles Thrash. Col. Thrash will speak on the history of, and his experience at, Myrtle Beach Air Force Base on April 30, 2016 at the Horry County Museum.
During his 26 years in the Air Force, Col. Thrash served in a variety of assignments both in the United States and overseas. Following graduation from the National War College in 1991, he was assigned to Myrtle Beach AFB as the Vice Commander. Shortly before deactivation of the 354th Tactical Fighter Wing, he was transferred to Pope Air Force Base as Commander of the 23rd Operations Group. He retired from the Air Force on July 1, 1995 and returned to the Myrtle Beach area to live. He was the General Manager of Bay Tree Golf Plantation for five years and was employed as Director of the Professional Golf Management Department at Coastal Carolina University for over 10 years before retiring on June 30, 2013. The Col. Charles Thrash Learning Center at the Hackler Golf Course at Coastal Carolina University and Thrash Way at the Market Common are both named in his honor.
