SUMMARY:Against All Odds: The Jim Dozier Story
DESCRIPTION:The 2026 Horry County Museum Documentary Film Series continues with Against All Odds: The Jim Dozier Story. Produced by The United Bank Center for Military and Veteran Studies\, this film tells the story of Horry County native\, and Medal of Honor recipient\, Jim Dozier. \nDozier\, a Galivants Ferry native\, was awarded the Medal of Honor for valor in battle in World War I in France\, becoming the first resident of Horry County to receive the nation’s highest military honor. The film is produced by Rod Gragg\, an author\, historian and educator at Coastal Carolina University. \nThe film is free to the public and will be shown at 1:00 PM\, Wednesday\, August 26th\, at the Horry County Museum\, located at 805 Main Street in Conway. \nThe Horry County Museum Documentary Film Matinees will continue throughout 2026. DESCRIPTION:The Horry County Museum presents a program by acting Chief Cheryl Cail on the Waccamaw Indian People on Saturday\, August 29th at 1 PM. \nCheryl Cail is the Acting Chief of the Waccamaw Indian People and Chairperson of SC Idle No More; a SC Indian Affairs Commission committee which focuses on environmental and cultural preservation\, and indigenous sovereignty. She is a small business owner\, the mother of three sons and grandmother of seven. She is currently attending Coastal Carolina University pursuing a B.A. degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis on Environmental and Cultural Sustainability of Indigenous Lands. \nCheryl has been a guest speaker\, presenter and panelist at college lecture series and community events\, as well as a consultant and contributor for academic publications and reports. She is a co-founder of the Indigenize SC Education Task Force\, serves as a member of the board of the Waccamaw Community Foundation\, on the leadership team for the National PFAS Contamination Coalition\, and is a sitting member of the Council of Chiefs of the Tribal Alliance of South Carolina Nations. \nThe program is free to the public and will be held in the Museum’s McCown Auditorium located at 805 Main Street\, Conway\, S.C.
