DESCRIPTION:“Cooking demonstration at the L.W. Paul Living History Farm” \n  \nExperience life on the family farm in Horry County from 1900-1955 at the L.W. Paul Living History Farm. Join us on December 5th from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM for a cooking demonstration on the wood burning stove. Chicken and dressing has been a popular side dish for holiday meals for many years. In this month’s demonstration\, staff will show how dressing\, or stuffing\, would be made from scratch using ingredients mainly from the farm. \nThe L. W. Paul Living History Farm is open Tuesday-Saturday 9 AM-4 PM and teaches the history of the Horry County farm family. SUMMARY:Christmas at the Farm
DESCRIPTION:Experience life on the family farm in Horry County from 1900-1955 at the L.W. Paul Living History Farm. On December 7th\, see how the farm family would have prepared for the Christmas season. Visit the farmhouse throughout the day to see seasonal activities including making candy\, cooking on the wood burning stove\, and decorating the Christmas tree. Other demonstrations include making syrup from sugar cane\, a sawmill demonstration from 11 am until noon\, blacksmithing\, and traditional music under the syrup shed from 1 pm-3 pm. \nThe L.W. SUMMARY:Discovering Dave
DESCRIPTION:The 2019 Horry County Museum Documentary Film Series continues with Discovering Dave: Spirit Captured in Clay. Directed and produced by George Wingard and Mark Albertin and released through the Savannah River Archaeological Research Program and Scrapbook Video\, this film tells the story of David Drake\, a slave potter from Edgefield\, South Carolina. David was one of the first African American slaves to sign many of his works\, which included jars and pitchers. In addition to producing thousands of pieces of pottery\, David also wrote poetry. \nThe film is free to the public and will be shown at 1:00 PM\, Wednesday\, December 11th\, at the Horry County Museum\, located at 805 Main Street in Conway. \nThe Horry County Museum Documentary Film Matinees will continue throughout 2019. SUMMARY:Museum Matinee
DESCRIPTION:The 2019 Horry County Museum Documentary Film Series concludes with Men of Honor: Freddie Stowers & Alvin York. This film follows the stories of two Medal of Honor recipients from World War I\, Freddie Stowers\, and Alvin York. Stowers\, a native of South Carolina\, was a corporal and squad leader who was killed in action wile leading an assault that helped to break the German line in northern France. He was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor in 1991\, and became the first African-American soldier to receive the award in World War I. Join us for Wash Day on Tuesday\, December 31st from 9:00 AM-3:00 PM to see how clothes would have been washed using a scrub board and wash pot. From 11:00 until 1:00\, staff will demonstrate splitting stove wood with an axe in the farm yard. \nA free\, hour long\, guided tour of the farm will be available to the public starting at 3:00 PM. \nThe L.W.
