The 2025 Horry County Museum Documentary Film Series continues with South Carolina Ghosts & Legends Vol. I., part of the Carolina Stories Series produced by SCETV.
This 30 minute film tracks the legends and lore from South Carolina’s past in a haunting journey from the Old Exchange Dungeon in Charleston to the Abbeville Opera House in the Upstate. Search for the Lands End Ghost that walks the Carolina coast and maybe the most famous of all, the Lizard Man of Scape Ore Swamp.
The film is free to the public and will be shown at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, October 1st, at the Horry County Museum, located at 805 Main Street in Conway.

Shot on site at Kings Mountain National Historic Park, this locally produced documentary tells how the ‘Over-Mountain Men’, a group of Scots-Irish volunteers from the backcountry of the Carolinas, Virginia and Tennessee, helped to change the course of the American Revolution. |

Join us Saturday, October 11th, for a free 30 minute activity at the Farm! Parents can sign children up for a half hour session between 9 AM-11 AM. Group sizes will be limited. In this session, children will learn about the prehistoric animals that lived in Horry County and participate in a mini fossil dig. The Horry County Museum will offer a free program on local ghost stories on Saturday, October 11th at 1 PM. Storyteller Elizabeth Robertson Huntsinger will share the eerie histories of long-ago Georgetonians, revealing how their lives made them legendary - and why their deaths made them ghosts. |

Join us Saturday, October 18th, for a free 30 minute activity at the Farm! Parents can sign children up for a half hour session between 9 AM-11 AM. Group sizes will be limited. Children will learn about indigo as a cash crop in South Carolina. They’ll also design and dye their own small bag to take home. Join us at the Horry County Museum on Saturday, October 18th at 1 PM for a presentation on Native American Perseverance in South Carolina by Joshua Shumak. This presentation explores the resilience and enduring contributions of Native American communities in South Carolina, from the historic Lowcountry to regions beyond. Participants will learn about cultural preservation, community leadership, and the ongoing efforts of state-recognized and tribal communities to sustain their heritage, traditions, and influence in contemporary society. |

This 30 minute film explores two famous ghosts with roots on Pawley’s Island, “The Gray Man” and “Alice of the Hermitage.” The program also investigates “Bubba the Ghost” at the South Carolina State Museum and the ghosts of the University of South Carolina’s Longstreet Theatre. The Carolina Stories crew travels to Charleston to unearth tales of buried treasure and other legendary pirate stories. |
