• Quilts of Valor at the Horry County Museum

    The public is invited to view a special Quilts of Valor presentation at the Horry County Museum. Quilts made especially for local veterans will be presented by the Conway Quilt Guild Quilts of Valor Group on Saturday, November 8th at 11 AM. Quilts to be awarded can be viewed at the Horry County Museum starting October 25th.
    The mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation (QOVF) is to cover all service members and veterans, touched by war, with a comforting and healing quilt. Since 2003, the foundation, now a national organization, has awarded over 400,000 quilts to veterans throughout the country. The Conway Quilt Guild has been recognized as one of the newest QOV groups, seeking to expand recognition to veterans in the northern and western parts of Horry County.   • Killers of the Flower Moon

    “Horry County Museum to host screening and discussion of Killers of the Flower Moon”
    In recognition of Native American Heritage Month, The Horry County Museum, in partnership with the South Carolina Commission for Community Advancement and Engagement, will host a screening of the film Killers of the Flower Moon. After the viewing, the audience is invited to participate in a Q&A discussion about the film and Native American history and culture within South Carolina. The screening will be held on November 8th at 2 PM at the Horry County Museum.
    This event will be held at the Museum’s McCown Auditorium located at 805 Main Street, Conway, S.C. This program is free and open to the public, no reservations or tickets required.   • Courage in Korea: A Soldier’s Story

    The 2025 Horry County Museum Documentary Film Series continues with Courage in Korea: A Soldier’s Story. The documentary presents the little-known story of the Korean War through the experiences of the late Sergeant Paul Thompkins, a Korean War veteran from Conway, South Carolina. Thompkins, who became a local pastor after the war, was engaged in combat in Korea with the U.S. 1st Cavalry Division, was captured when U.S. lines were overrun by the Chinese army, and spent more than two-and-a-half years as a prisoner-of-war in North Korea’s Communist prison camps.
    The film is free to the public and will be shown at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, November 12th, at the Horry County Museum, located at 805 Main Street in Conway.

  • Syrup Day at the L.W. Paul Living History Farm

    See history come to life at the L.W. Paul Living History Farm! A large part of farm life in Horry County involved old-fashioned syrup making. Each fall, sugar cane was gathered from the field and taken to a local cane mill where the juice was squeezed from the stalk. Cooking down the raw juice into sweet cane syrup became a celebration and gathering for the community and is a tradition that is carried on each year at the L.W. Paul Living History Farm. Join us Saturday, November 15th from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm as staff and volunteers demonstrate the process of making cane syrup and a variety of other traditional activities including children’s games, cooking on a wood burning stove, and more!

  • Over Here: The Homefront During World War I

    The 2025 Horry County Museum Documentary Film Series continues with Over Here: The Homefront During World War I. This film, part of the Carolina Stories Series by SCETV, examines why African-Americans supported the war effort and how they were disappointed by the response to their efforts; women’s roles and how the war played a part in the women’s movement; military camps and what they meant for South Carolina cities; and how the influenza epidemic in 1918 impacted the state.
    The film is free to the public and will be shown at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, November 19th, at the Horry County Museum, located at 805 Main Street in Conway.

  • Free Children’s Program at the L.W. Paul Living History Farm

    Join us Saturday, November 22nd, for a free 30 minute activity at the Farm! Parents can sign children up for a half hour session between 9 AM-11 AM. Group sizes will be limited. Children will learn about the importance of homemade soap on the family farm. Participants will also have a chance to make their own melt and pour soap to take home!

  • Saltwater Chamber Orchestra: Celebrating American Music

    The Horry County Museum presents a concert by the Saltwater Chamber Orchestra on Saturday, November 22nd at 1 PM. Comprised of volunteer members and performers, Saltwater Chamber Orchestra boasts a robust season of concerts with quality music performance. The group began as a club in the Coastal Carolina OLLI program in Myrtle Beach, SC, and is now an independent chamber string orchestra. Their repertoire consists of classical and show/pop selections, as well as selections for various holidays. Throughout the years since its founding, the organization has performed along the Grand Strand coast of South Carolina, sharing the comforting sounds of strings in the palmetto community. Venues have included churches, schools, libraries, and museums, as part of an ongoing concert series, and for educational, charitable, and civic events.
