Experience life on the “one horse farm” in Horry County from 1900-1955 at the L.W. Paul Living History Farm. Join us on March 7th from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM for a cooking demonstration on the wood burning stove. Creativity was needed when the family wanted to get away from everyday recipes and add variety to their meals. In this demonstration, Wayne will use foods from the pantry to cook a small meal that would have been different for the average family.

Junior Curators continues at the Horry County Museum on Saturday, March 9th from 9 AM-10 AM. This free, family friendly, program is open to children ages 5 and older and will teach children the history and natural history of Horry County through hands on activities. In this session, children will join Museum Curator, Hillary Winburn as she discusses what we collect and why. Participants will also test their knowledge and try to guess what certain artifacts are. The 2019 Horry County Museum Documentary Film Series continues with Over Here: The Homefront During World War I. This film, part of the Carolina Stories Series by SCETV, examines why African-Americans supported the war effort and how they were disappointed by the response to their efforts; women’s roles and how the war played a part in the women’s movement; military camps and what they meant for South Carolina cities; and how the influenza epidemic in 1918 impacted the state.

Junior Farmers at the L.W. Paul Living History Farm

Experience life on the one-horse family farm from 1900-1955 at the L.W. Paul Living History Farm. Junior Farmers is a free, family friendly program open to children ages 5-10 and focuses on the traditions and workings of an early 1900s farm family. Join us on March 16th from 9:00 AM-10:00 AM to learn about corn shuck scrubs, a type of mop that would be made using corn husks. Maximum of 15 children, parents must remain with children.
