    The 2026 Horry County Museum Documentary Film Series continues with A True Likeness. Part of the Carolina Stories Series by SCETV, this 30 minute film tells the story of Richard Samuel Roberts, a little-known African American photographer from South Carolina whose posthumous discovery transcended stereotypes and brought to light a significant legacy. Heralded as one of the south’s most accomplished photographers of the 1920's and 1930's, Roberts was a self-taught artist who was determined to become a master portrait maker, with every image a true likeness of the subject. But for more than 40 years after his death his work remained lost to all but his family and friends.
    The film is free to the public and will be shown at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, March 25th, at the Horry County Museum, located at 805 Main Street in Conway.

  • Felting Workshop at the Horry County Museum

    The Horry County Museum will host a free workshop on Felting for Beginners, by Jill Messier. Participants will learn the basics of felting and will make a small snowman to take home. The workshop will take place on Thursday, March 26th at 2:00 PM. Space is limited, pre-registration is required. Due to the nature of the tools being used, this class is only open to ages 13 and up.   • Intermediate Felting Workshop at the Horry County Museum

    The Horry County Museum will host a free workshop on intermediate felting, by Jill Messier. This workshop is open to those who already have a basic understanding of felting and would like to complete a more complex project. The program will take place on Friday, March 27th at 2:00 PM.   • Jr. Program: Snakes

    Join us for free 30 minute Saturday activities at the Farm! Parents can sign children up for a half hour session between 9 AM-11 AM. Group sizes will be limited. On March 28th children will learn about different varieties of snakes that can be found in South Carolina. We will not have live snakes during the program.

  • Quilts of Valor at the Horry County Museum

    The public is invited to view a special Quilts of Valor presentation at the Horry County Museum. Quilts made especially for local veterans will be presented by the Myrtle Beach Shorebirds Quilts of Valor Group on Saturday, March 28th at 1 PM. The quilts to be awarded will be on display March 21st-26th at the Horry County Museum.
    The mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation (QOVF) is to cover all service members and veterans, touched by war, with a comforting and healing quilt. Since 2003, the foundation, now a national organization, has awarded over 400,000 quilts to veterans throughout the country. To nominate a veteran for a Quilt of Valor, visit www.qovf.org.

  • Beyond Barbados: The Carolina Connection

    The 2026 Horry County Museum Documentary Film Series continues with Beyond Barbados: The Carolina Connection. Part of the SCETV Carolina Stories Series, Beyond Barbados traces the historic influence of the small island of Barbados on the development of the Carolinas. Scholars examine the cultural exchange that impacted the development of language, food and architecture, and recount how the economic and governmental systems created, tested and proven by the West Indies sugar industry forged the prosperity and power of the Carolinas – chief among them the institution of slavery.
    The film is free to the public and will be shown at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, April 1st, at the Horry County Museum, located at 805 Main Street in Conway.
